An interesting book about this period of time, as the reformation is getting started.
The narrative is a little disjointed and I found myself impatient with some of it. Of interest to me was a new perspective of Sir Thomas More, not as the long-suffering chancellor who becomes a martyr himself rather than aid Henry’s mission to break with Rome and establish himself as head of the church in order to divorce Katharine and marry Anne.

Books by Brenda Vantrease. The pain she went through when her brother was arrested, or the love she felt for her husband. I just uereje a bbc documentary about William Tyndale the most dangerous man in tudor england so this book helped flesh out what life was like in that time for these men.
This is another one where she continues to write about the movement to translate the Bible into English. She becomes involved with historical characters John Frith, a Protestant writer and reformer, and his friend William Tyndale, famous translator of the Bible into English.
Little enough is known about them, that this story is h beautifully and believably.

Instantly I knew he was going to be the character that made me want to read the book, unfortunately after all my grand imaginings that he was the guy Kate was going to fall for she ended up marrying the weeny in comparison to the Captain bible translator John Firth. Gives some interesting perspective on an important time in church history, but probably not the most well written book I’ve ever read.
The version I listened to was the audio book read by Davina Porter. For a book I literally picked up randomly off the library bookshelf, I am pleasantly surprised. Kate almost envied the wounded woman that contentment. Cookies come in two flavours – persistent and transient.

The story is so well told and i would recommend the book to anyone looking to cast an eye through a historical pinhole. Open Preview See a Problem? Despite 1 a cover that made me embarrassed to read this in public because it makes this look like a historical romance novel–and there were elements of that; 2 an anachronistically feminist heroine; 3 characters who were almost all either unblemished heroes or ,ibrera 4 a gradual realization that this could be read as and perhaps even was intended as a Protestant, anti-Catholic polemic–despite all this I found this to be an engaging yarn that shed light on Reformation-era England.
In those days, the idea that people should be able to read the Bible for themselves was a perilously radical one, and it herehe result in its proponents ending their days ehreje at the libera view spoiler [the final ending for both Frith and Tyndale hide spoiler ].
Unfortunately, this novel moved way too slowly for me, and dithered and dallied when I wanted to get on with the story. To me a book is either worth reading or it isn’t. I look forward to what Vantrease will publish next! Well written and very informative. Lists with This Book. What finally killed this particular one for me was the relatively modern language and idiom. I cannot give it more than three stars, though.
