The transistor can also make the Load to be isolated from the system ground, so if you are looking for a Voltage comparator to drive loads of these specifications then this IC might be the right choice for you.

Why is it not working in Multisim? Message 3 of 5. Most Active Software Boards: Any Op-Amp can be made to work as a voltage comparator, but the LM proves itself to be advantages by housing an Output Transistor inside its package.

Normally these pins are not used since the Input Offset itself is much better controlled.

You can refer the other possible circuits from the LM datasheet given at bottom. All of those comparator outputs should be a high state which means the LED will turn on connected through the 1K resistor to Vcc. A sample circuit is shown below in which the Inverting Terminal is set to 2.

I tried adding in a transistor with a 1k resistor to ground and a TTL signal at the datadheet as per the datasheet and this doesn’t disable the output either. The pins 5 and 6 on the Op-amp are used to set the balance voltage if you want to manually adjust the DC-Offset voltage. I built a simple circuit using the LMN comparator. Message 2 of 5. Submitted by admin on 6 March The simplified schematics of the IC is shown below:. TL — Programmable Reference Voltage. Attached is a Lm311j file with every comparator with a strobe feature available in Multisim and a picture of the circuit.

Message 4 of 5. According to the datasheet, if you tie the strobe datasheet to GND then the output should be disabled.

I just built the circuit in real life and it works exactly as I thought, putting GND on the strobe pin makes the output a constant state at Vcci.

Could the component model be the issue? You can note that the Output voltage stays high when pin 2 has higher voltage than pin 7 and vice versa. The output is correct as seen on the scope. As grounding unused pins is a practice on electronics, I guess it was the way of the designer to make sure the device was not disabled for a ground wired to that pin.

This pin is connected to the ground of the system Negative voltage can also be used.

When not in use the pins 5 and 6 should be shorted as shown above. Message 5 of 5. Auto-suggest helps you quickly narrow down your search results by suggesting possible matches as you type.

I expect the output to oscillate between 0 and 1 at the “zero crossing” of the signal. The problem is that the strobe pin is not working for the model.

An Emitter Output Circuit is shown below. Message 1 of 5. LMN Comparator with Strobe.

Multisim and Ultiboard

Any help is appreciated. If the voltage at the Non-Inverting Terminal pin 2 is higher than the Inverting Terminal pin 2the output pin 7 will also be high else the output will be low. The problem is that tying the strobe pin to ground should make the output stop changing, and it isn’t. The LM can work on a Single supply voltage or in a dual supply mode.

The simplified schematics of the IC is shown below:
